Teaching clip: Nehemiah 9-10

Ever wonder what the middle school students are being taught each Sunday?

Currently we are wrapping up a series in Nehemiah (just like in “big church”), and this weekend learned Nehemiah 9-10, entitled “Remember What Got Us Here.”

Here Chris Nye uses an analogy to describe our need for dependence on Christ:

Question: What is your Foundation?

Treasuring Christ

On Sunday we watched this video, challenging us to see all of our possessions — money, things, food, everything — as ways to show how Christ is more valuable to us than any of it. All of our stuff is on loan from its true Owner, the Creator God, who made us to know, love and enjoy Him above all else.

  • The question for students to ask their parents: Mom + Dad, who really owns all of our stuff?

Being a Missionary: Clayton’s Story

This morning we talked about being a missionary, tied to the texts of Acts 10 and Matthew 28:18-30 (aka the Great Commission). Missionaries are not just those who go to far-off lands to share the Gospel. God has sent us into all areas of life to show His grace and speak of the infinite worth of His Son.

Here’s the video we watched: Clayton’s Story. It sparked a conversation about making our lives count.

True Love (by Phil Wickham)

Here’s the video we showed before the worship service Sunday. The song is “True Love” by Phil Wickham. A church put this video together with the song for their Easter worship celebration.

  • BTW, the song “True Love” is from Phil Wickham’s free album, Sing Along.

What was the video we played Sunday?

Give Me Your Eyes” by Brandon Heath

Here it is:

The lyrics:
Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere,
Why have I never cared?

Chorus:
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
Yeah (x4)

It’s snowing! Okay … you already knew that. But Luke has some other announcements too for our middle schoolers. Watch and learn:
